Let’s focus here (pause), on ‘That One Piece’. The one piece that starts it all; instantly sparks inspiration for a killer outfit or look. You take that piece and build from there. At least that’s how I operate when it comes to putting together my outfits. After I’ve found this ‘said piece’, or after it’s found me, I then rank it’s level of fabulousness to determine if the rest of my pieces should consist of statement pieces or just complement the “one piece”. I call this determining how “extra” I want my outfit/look to be aka how much staring do I want to cause.
In the case of this HM fringe skirt, I determined it was going to be the piece that did ALL the talking. And did it talk. The movement this skirt delivers is quite drawing (hence my quote for this post). Let’s just say I channelled my inner Tina on this day.
For the rest of my outfit, I chose pieces to compliment and balance, not outshine the main piece. I opted for a black T to add a simple tone back into the look, while adding a splash of sexiness with my snake kitten pumps from Topshop. The hat and cape jacket from ZARA – I added last minute to add some character to my outfit, knowing I would probably be taking off my cape and hat later in the day.
Everyone’s style for styling can definitely vary, and I encourage you to do what works best for you and your personality, most importantly what feels best for you. Do you use a different technique to piece together your outfits? I’d love to hear them. Comment below!
